Hello. I am a Capcut Pro desktop user, but I am having issues with the software storage. I have received a message saying that I do not have enough storage to continue editing. Is there a solution like purchasing Capcut cloud storage? Or what should I do? PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

If you have CapCut PRO membership then you will get 100GB free cloud storage. Since you are encountering not enough storage problem then it is most likely an issue with your desktop storage not being enough to save the file.

This is a common challenge with video editing software like CapCut —especially when working with high-resolution footage. The storage warning you're seeing is related to your local drive (hard drive or SSD). Here’s how you can tackle the issue:

1. Free Up Local Storage

  • Delete Unnecessary Files:
Remove files, applications, and data you no longer need. Focus on large items like old videos, photos, and downloads.

  • Empty the Recycle Bin:
Ensure you empty your computer's recycle bin to actually reclaim deleted space.

  • Uninstall Unused Programs:
Remove applications you don't use to free up significant space.

  • Move Files to External Storage:
Transfer large files (videos, photos, documents) that you don't need immediately to an external drive.

  • Clear CapCut Cache:
CapCut stores temporary files that can consume a lot of space. Look in the settings or preferences for an option to clear the cache.

2. Optimize Your CapCut Workflow

  • Proxy Editing is highly recommended:
If you’re working with high-resolution footage (like 4K), create lower-resolution proxy files for editing. Edit with these proxies, and then let CapCut use the original files for the final export. This reduces both storage and processing demands.

  • Close Unused Projects:
Shut down any CapCut projects you’re not actively working on to minimize storage usage.

  • Regularly Delete Render Files:
After exporting your video, delete the rendered output if you have the original project file. You can always re-render if needed.

3. Upgrade local storage if necessary

  • Add an internal drive:
If your computer supports it, consider installing an additional hard drive or SSD for more space.

  • Use a Fast External Drive:
A high-speed external SSD connected via USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt can serve as additional storage for your video and project files. Note, however, that editing directly from an external drive may be slower than using internal storage.

4. Use cloud storage for backup

  • While you can’t edit directly from cloud storage in CapCut, you can back up your project files and original footage using services like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Backblaze B2. This ensures your data is safe, even if it doesn’t resolve your immediate editing storage issues.

Key Considerations

  • Storage Speed:
Fast storage is critical for video editing. SSDs are significantly faster than traditional hard drives and are highly recommended.

  • Proxy Workflow:
Adopting a proxy editing workflow is one of the best ways to manage storage and improve performance with high-resolution footage.

In Summary:
Begin by freeing up space on your current drive and clearing CapCut's cache. Implement a proxy editing workflow to minimize storage demands. If necessary, upgrade your local storage with an additional internal drive or a fast external SSD. Remember, while cloud storage is excellent for backup, it isn’t designed for direct editing in CapCut.
