Hello. I looked for this question but did not find it. Is there any way to edit a template length. I am using the Pro plan. Most of the templates are very short. Also the clips in it are something like 5 to 1 seconds I would like to create a longer video project like 90 seconds by choosing a template and editing all the clips and also their time. It is easy to change clips but I do not see an option of editing the length of it.
Thank you very much in advance.
Hello! That's a common point of confusion when working with CapCut templates.
Here's the situation regarding editing template lengths and clip durations within them:
-
Templates Have Fixed Timing: CapCut templates are designed with pre-set timings for each clip, transitions, effects, and often synchronized to specific audio tracks. The core structure, including the duration of each segment and the overall length, is generally fixed by the template creator and cannot be directly edited when you use the template feature.
-
What You Can Do: As you have noted, you can easily replace the placeholder photos or video clips with your own media.
-
What You Generally Cannot Do - Within the Template:
- Change Overall Template Duration: You cannot simply drag the end of the template timeline to make it longer (e.g., stretching a 10-second template to 90 seconds).
- Change Individual Clip Durations: You cannot adjust the time allocated for each specific clip within the template's structure (e.g., making a 0.5-second clip slot last for 3 seconds). The template dictates how long each piece of media will be shown.
-
CapCut Pro: While CapCut Pro offers many advantages (no watermark, more effects, cloud storage, etc.), it does not change this fundamental limitation of how templates work regarding their fixed timing.
Workarounds to Create a Longer Video Inspired by a Template:
Since you can't directly modify the template's timing for your 90-second project, here are your best options:
-
Manual Recreation - Recommended for Full Control:
- Identify the template you like. Pay close attention to its effects, transitions, text styles, and overall aesthetic.
- Start a new, blank project in CapCut (don't use the template feature).
- Import all the clips you want to use for your 90-second video.
- Manually trim and arrange your clips on the timeline, setting the exact duration you want for each one.
- Recreate the effects, transitions, text animations, and filters inspired by the template you liked. This gives you complete control over timing and content. It takes more effort but achieves your goal precisely.
-
Use Multiple Templates or Stitch Videos:
- Use the template you like with one set of clips. Export the short video.
- Use the same template (or a different one) with another set of clips. Export that video.
- Repeat as needed.
- Start a new, blank project and import these exported short videos.
- Arrange them on the timeline, potentially adding transitions between them, to build up your 90-second video. This is less seamless and might feel repetitive if using the same template multiple times.
-
Use the Template as Part of a Longer Video:
- Create your short video using the template as intended. Export it.
- Start a new, blank project.
- Import the video you just exported from the template.
- Add other video clips before or after the template segment in the timeline to reach your desired 90-second length. You can edit these other clips freely.
-
Using Long-Duration Templates:
-
CapCut offers a selection of long-duration templates designed for extended storytelling. These templates can be customized to fit your content needs. You can explore these options here.

-
Modifying Existing Templates:
-
While some templates have fixed durations, certain elements within them might be adjustable:
-
Replace Media: Swap out the template's default clips with your own.
-
Adjust Individual Clip Durations: Some templates allow you to modify the length of individual clips.
- However, be aware that not all templates support these adjustments.

In summary: You cannot directly edit the pre-set lengths within a CapCut template. For a longer, custom-timed project like yours (90 seconds), your best bet is to manually build the video in a new project, potentially taking inspiration from the template's style.
We hope this helps you in creating your 90-second video project.
