Just yesterday I was able to edit and open a project. However today I am unable to edit that same project. Whenever I attempt to open the project a window pops up that says "This project is created by a newer version of Capcut. Update to open this project?" Every time it updates and restarts Capcut, but when I attempt to open the project again the update window pops back up. I have spent the past 2 hours attempting to resolve this issue. I have tried

-restarting my PC

-uninstalling and reinstalling Capcut

-running Capcut as admin

and nothing has worked. In fact when I run Capcut as admin the same window pops up but when I click update it tells me I have the latest version of Capcut. Has anyone else experienced this? It's very frustrating especially when I pay for PRO....

Hi,

This is a problem with CapCut projects and version mismatches, particularly after updates. It seems to be a recurring problem that can be triggered by various factors and is a possible glitch or corruption within the application's files.

Here is a breakdown of what might be happening and some potential solutions around the same:

Possible causes for such kind of update loop issues:

  • Bug after CapCut update: A recent update to CapCut itself might contain a bug that is causing this version detection error. If there is a bug that has crept in the recent CapCut updates then this kind of loops can happen.
  • Project file corruption: Although less likely since it was working yesterday, there is a small chance the project file itself became corrupted.
  • CapCut server issues: Sometimes authentication or project loading issues can arise from server-side problems at CapCut's end.

Troubleshooting steps to try beyond what you have already done:

  1. Check for another update (even if it says you are up to date):

    • Sometimes the in-app updater can be unreliable. Visit the official CapCut download page and see if there is a newer version available for download directly from the website. Download and install it to be absolutely sure you have the latest version.
    • If this is a new bug that has come in the latest version then developers would already be aware of the issue based on user feedback and hence a new version with the bug fixes will be on the way soon. So you might have to wait a day or two to download the next version which has this bug fixed.
  2. Clear CapCut cache:

    • Corrupted cache files can sometimes cause strange behavior. Look for a setting within CapCut (usually in preferences or settings) to clear the application's cache. Restart CapCut after clearing the cache.
  3. Complete uninstallation and reinstallation:

    • Uninstall CapCut: Ensure that CapCut is entirely removed from your system. This includes deleting any residual files or folders that might not be removed during a standard uninstallation.
    • Reinstall CapCut: Download the latest version directly from the official CapCut website or a trusted source. This ensures you are installing a fresh and uncorrupted version.
  4. Check for residual files:

    • After uninstallation, navigate to the installation directory (commonly C:\Program Files\CapCut or C:\Program Files (x86)\CapCut) and delete any remaining CapCut folders.
    • Also, check for CapCut-related files in your user profile directories, such as C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local and C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming.
  5. Run CapCut as administrator:

    • Right-click on the CapCut shortcut and select "Run as administrator." This can help bypass any permission-related issues that might be causing the update prompt.
  6. Compatibility mode:

    • Right-click on the CapCut executable (CapCut.exe), select "Properties," then navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
    • Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select an earlier version of Windows (e.g., Windows 8).
    • Apply the changes and try launching CapCut again.
  7. Firewall and internet connection:

    • CapCut's update prompts can be influenced by its internet access.
    • Consider temporarily disconnecting from the internet and then launching CapCut to see if the prompt persists.
    • Alternatively, you can create a firewall rule to block CapCut's internet access:
      • Open "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security."
      • Click on "Outbound Rules," then "New Rule."
      • Select "Program" and specify the path to CapCut.exe.
      • Choose "Block the connection" and complete the rule setup.
    • This method although indirect but can sometimes prevent unwanted update prompts.
  8. Check system requirements:

    • While unlikely if it was working yesterday, quickly double-check that your PC still meets the minimum system requirements for the latest version of CapCut. Sometimes updates increase these requirements. You can find this information on the CapCut download page link provided above.
  9. Try opening an older project:

    • See if you can open a different, older CapCut project. If older projects open but the specific project in question doesn't, it might indicate an issue specific to that project file.
  10. Contact CapCut support directly:

    • Since you are a PRO user, you should have access to priority support. This issue seems complex and might require direct assistance from CapCut's technical team. Explain the steps you've already taken. The team can be reached out by mailing at [email protected] or [email protected].
    • Alternatively, you can access the contact form from here.

To help CapCut support resolve the issue, when you contact them, be sure to provide:

  • Your CapCut version number (even if it says "latest", provide the specific number).
  • Your operating system (Windows version, macOS version).
  • Details of your project - e.g., complexity, types of media used.
  • A clear description of the error message and the steps you have taken.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the persistent update prompt and regain access to your project.
