I'm having problems when I use the background auto removal tool. I use a green screen to record my videos, then use the auto removal tool and add my own background. However, when u play my video, it keeps glitching and showing brief glimpses of my green screen throughout the video. I've tried clearing cache etc but it doesn't seem to work.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi,
We understand that you are experiencing glitches with CapCut's background auto-removal tool, especially after using a green screen. This issue, where brief glimpses of the green screen appear during playback, can be tackled by using the steps outlined below.
1. Use the "Chroma Key" feature:
- Instead of relying solely on the auto background removal tool, consider using CapCut's Chroma Key feature, which is specifically designed for green screen editing.
- CapCut has a dedicated "Chroma Key" or "Keying" feature specifically designed for green screens. This might offer more precise control than the auto removal tool
- Steps:
- Import your green screen footage and background:
- Start a new project in CapCut and import your green screen video clip.
- Import the background image or video you want to use as an overlay and place it on the timeline below your green screen clip.
- Select Chroma Key:
- Tap on your green screen video clip in the timeline to select it.
- Look for the "Cut Out" option in the bottom menu and tap on it.
- Choose "Chroma Key."
- Color picker and intensity:
- A color picker will appear. Drag the color picker circle to the green color on your video preview. This will select the green color for removal.
- Use the "Intensity" slider to adjust the strength of the chroma key effect. Increase the intensity until the green screen is completely removed and your background shows through clearly. Be careful not to increase it too much, as it might start removing parts of your subject.
- The "Shadow" slider can help refine the edges of your subject and blend them more smoothly with the new background. Adjust this subtly if needed.
- Watch the below video to see how it is done
- Import your green screen footage and background:
- This method provides more control and can reduce glitches associated with the auto-removal tool.
- After using auto removal or chroma key, CapCut has tools to "Refine Edges" or "Edge Feathering." These can help smooth out the transition between you and the new background and minimize glitches.
2. Green Screen Setup Issues:
Even with a green screen, the quality of your setup can significantly impact the auto removal tool's performance.
- Uneven Lighting: Shadows or inconsistent lighting on your green screen can confuse the auto removal tool. Make sure your green screen is evenly lit. Avoid harsh shadows or bright spots.
- Wrinkles or Creases: Wrinkles in your green screen can create variations in color and shadows, making it harder for the tool to identify a consistent green to remove. Try to iron or steam out any wrinkles for a smoother surface.
- Color Consistency: Ensure your green screen is a consistent, pure green color. If it's faded, patchy, or not a true green, the auto removal might struggle.
- Distance from Green Screen: Maintain some distance between you (or your subject) and the green screen to minimize green spill (green light reflecting onto you) and to help create a cleaner separation.
3. Update or Reinstall CapCut:
- Ensure you're using the latest version of CapCut, as updates often include bug fixes.
- If the problem persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to resolve potential software issues.
- If you are using CapCut on a less powerful device, it might struggle with complex tasks like background removal, especially on longer videos. Try closing other apps while editing, or if possible, try editing on a more powerful device.
- A simple restart of your phone, tablet, or computer can sometimes resolve temporary software glitches.
3. Optimize Recording Conditions:
The quality of your original video footage is crucial for effective background removal.
- Ensure your green screen is evenly lit and free from wrinkles or shadows, as imperfections can affect background removal.
- Avoid shaky footage. Use a tripod or stable surface to record your video.
- Recording in higher resolution can provide more data for CapCut to process, potentially improving the accuracy of background removal.
- While CapCut can handle various video qualities, extremely low resolution or very high frame rates might sometimes cause issues. Try recording in a standard resolution (like 1080p) and frame rate (like 30fps) to see if it improves.
4. Check CapCut Performance Settings:
It's possible that certain performance settings in CapCut might be contributing to export glitches. One online source suggests adjusting "Encode Settings" in CapCut's performance menu:
-
- Access Settings: Go to the main menu within CapCut (usually found in the top corner).
-
- Performance Menu: Look for a "Settings" or "Global Settings" option and then find a "Performance" menu.
-
- Encode Settings: Within the Performance menu, try disabling or adjusting "Encode Settings" (the specific wording might vary slightly depending on your CapCut version).
- Add your desired background image or video.
- Play your video back in CapCut slowly and in full screen to check for any remaining green screen glitches.
- Save and Export: Save the changes and then try exporting your video again to see if the glitching is resolved.
Try exporting a short test section of your video and play it on different devices or players to see if the glitches are still present in the final exported video. This helps in ruling out any issues there within the app itself.
