I just made a video that took me 3 hours to edit, and I wanted to clear my other videos to free up space. I accidentally deleted the one I wanted to keep. How do I recover it? I didn't save it to cloud, and this was on mobile (iphone 15)

Videos can be deleted by mistake. Please read our guide on how to recover deleted CapCut videos.

Hi,

Unfortunately once a video project has been deleted from CapCut and then removed from the trash, there is no built‐in option to “undo” or recovery feature.

Try to do the following steps:

1. Check for backups in your device

  • Gallery/exported files:
If you have exported the final video or saved a copy outside CapCut for example, in your phone’s gallery or cloud storage, check there first.
  • Cloud or system backups:
On Android, usually you will have a backup through Google Photos, and on iOS, your video might be included in an iCloud backup. If you routinely back up your device, you may be able to restore a version of your project from a backup made before deletion.
  • CapCut Cloud Storage: If you had enabled CapCut's cloud storage feature, your projects will be backed up online. Log in to your CapCut account on the web or on another device to see if the video is there.

2. Third-Party recovery tools

  • Data Recovery Software:
If your project was stored locally (and not on a cloud backup) you could consider trying third-party data recovery tools. However, keep in mind that once an app permanently deletes its files, they are often overwritten or removed from accessible storage, making recovery very unlikely.
  • Some popular choices include Disk Drill, Recuva (for PC), and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. However, success is not guaranteed, and it depends on factors like how long ago the video was deleted and how much the device has been used since.
  • If you plan to use data recovery software, it's crucial to minimize further use of the device where the video was deleted. This prevents new data from overwriting the deleted video, which would make it unrecoverable.

Watch the below YouTube tutorial to understand more about this process:

3. Preventing future loss

  • Regular exports and backups:
To avoid similar situations in the future, consider exporting copies of your projects and regularly backing up your device. CapCut allows you to export your projects to your device’s gallery or cloud services.

Other factors to consider:

  • If you ever shared the video with anyone via a link, check your sharing history within CapCut or on any platforms you used to share it. You might be able to download the video from the link.
  • The sooner you try these recovery methods, the better your chances are.
  • Get into the habit of exporting your finished videos to your device or cloud storage as a backup.

Final Thoughts

Unfortunately, if you’ve deleted a CapCut project and then cleared it from the trash bin without any external backup, there isn’t a built-in method within CapCut to recover it. Your best chance would be if your device or cloud service had a backup from before the deletion. If not, the project is likely permanently lost.
