Dear Capcut team, lately I have been starting to experience constant crashing of the app when I open it. This problem started a few days ago. I have already done the following: Reinstalling the app, clearing the app's cache, updating drivers. I sincerely advise You to look into this problem and suggest solutions.

Hi,

If you are experiencing persistent crashes with CapCut. Given the steps you have already taken, here are some additional solutions you might consider:

  1. Run CapCut in Compatibility Mode:

    • Right-click on the CapCut shortcut or executable file.
    • Select "Properties."
    • Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
    • Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select an earlier version of Windows (e.g., Windows 8).
    • Click "Apply," then "OK."
  2. Install visual C++ redistributable packages:

    • CapCut requires specific Visual C++ Redistributable packages.
    • Download and install the latest supported versions from Microsoft's official website.

Ensuring these packages are up-to-date can address compatibility issues.

  3. Allow CapCut through Windows Defender Firewall:

    • Open "Windows Defender Firewall" from the Control Panel.
    • Click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall."
    • If CapCut isn't listed, click "Allow another app," browse for CapCut's executable file, and add it.
    • Ensure both "Private" and "Public" boxes are checked for CapCut.
    • Click "OK" to save changes.

This can prevent the firewall from blocking CapCut's operations.

  4. Install the Media Feature Pack (For Windows N Versions):

    • Windows N editions lack certain media features by default.
    • Go to "Settings" > "Apps" > "Optional features."
    • Click "Add a feature" and search for "Media Feature Pack."
    • Install it and restart your computer.

This installation can resolve media-related issues with CapCut.

  5. System file check and driver issues:

    • System file checker: Run the System File Checker tool to scan for and repair corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run the command sfc /scannow.
    • Clean driver reinstall: While you updated drivers, sometimes a "clean install" can help. Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) utility (for NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPUs) to completely remove your current graphics drivers, then reinstall the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.
  6. Check system compatibility and resources:

    • Minimum system requirements: Ensure your PC meets CapCut's minimum system requirements for the desktop version. Sometimes crashes happen if your system is just below the required specs, especially after updates that might increase resource demands.
    • Available disk space: Make sure you have sufficient free disk space on your system drive (where CapCut is installed). Low disk space can sometimes cause application instability.
    • RAM usage: CapCut can be RAM-intensive. Check your RAM usage when starting CapCut. If your RAM is consistently near 100% even before CapCut fully loads, it could indicate a RAM issue. Close unnecessary background applications to free up RAM.
    • Virtual memory/page file: Ensure your system's virtual memory (page file) is enabled and has enough space. This acts as extra RAM when physical RAM is full.
  7. Check for background applications consuming excessive resources:

    • Press "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" to open Task Manager.
    • Identify processes consuming high CPU or memory.
    • Right-click on resource-intensive applications and select "End Task."
    • Temporarily disable or uninstall recently installed software, especially video or graphics-related applications, to see if they are conflicting with CapCut.

Freeing up system resources can prevent CapCut from crashing due to insufficient memory.

  8. CapCut specific issues and workarounds:

Install an Older Version of CapCut:

    • If the issue began after a recent update, the latest version might be unstable on your system.
    • Uninstall the current version.
    • Download and install a previous version of CapCut from here.

Reverting to an earlier version can resolve stability issues especially if the recent version has introduced some new features which is not compatible with your system.

  • Project corruption: If the crash happens immediately on startup, it's less likely project-related. However, if it crashes when trying to load a specific project, that project file might be corrupted. Try starting CapCut without loading any project or creating a new empty project to see if it still crashes.
  • CapCut installation issues: Even after reinstalling, there could be residual corrupted files. Try a more thorough uninstall process:
    • Uninstall through Control Panel (Windows) or Applications (macOS).
    • Manually delete CapCut folders: After uninstalling, check for any remaining CapCut folders in "Program Files," "Program Files (x86)," "AppData" (Windows - you might need to show hidden folders), or "Applications" and "Library" (macOS). Delete these folders if found.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Reinstall CapCut.

Additionally, ensure your operating system is up-to-date, as system updates can address underlying compatibility problems.
