How do I How to copy AI-generated captions from one project to a new project?
The original track was 8 minutes and 34 seconds and about 1 minute went missing midway through making the video.
I need to replace it using the track which is intact from a good back up project.
I have tried Copy the track and it won't copy between projects.
What can I do please to import the non-corrupted AI-generated caption track between projects?
Hi,
Transferring AI-generated captions between CapCut projects can be tricky, as direct copying and pasting of elements between projects is not natively supported in CapCut currently. However, you can achieve this by exporting the captions as an SRT (SubRip Subtitle) file from your original project and then importing that file into your new project.
Here's how:
Export and Import Caption Files (SRT)
1. Export captions as an SRT File from the original project:
-
Generate and edit captions:
- Open your original project (backup project) in CapCut.
- Ensure that your AI-generated captions are accurate and properly synchronized with your video.
-
Export captions:
- Navigate to the "Captions" tab located at the top left of the interface.
- Click on "Auto Captions" to generate captions if you have not already done it.
- After reviewing and editing the captions, click on the "Export" option.
- Choose the "Export .srt" format to save the captions as an SRT file on your device.
2. Import the SRT file into the new project:
-
Open the new project:
- Launch CapCut and create a new project or open the existing project where you want to import the captions.
-
Import captions:
- Go to the "Captions" tab.
- Click on "Add Captions" and then select the "Import File" option.
- Browse and select the previously exported SRT file.
-
Adjust and synchronize:
- Once imported, review the captions to ensure they align correctly with your video's timing.
- Make any necessary adjustments to synchronize the captions with the audio and visuals.
Copy and Paste Caption Text (If Export/Import is not directly available):
If you can't find a direct export/import option for SRT files within CapCut (generally due to it being moved to PRO section), you might be able to copy and paste the caption text manually, though this is less ideal for long tracks and might lose some formatting.
-
Open your backup project and select captions:
- Open your backup CapCut project with the correct captions.
- Go to the Captions section and ensure the AI-generated caption track is visible and editable.
-
Select and Copy All Caption Text:
- Within the caption editor, try to select all of the caption text. There might be an option to "Select All" captions, or you might need to click and drag to select all the text segments.
- Copy the selected caption text (using
Ctrl+C
orCmd+C
).
-
Open your new project and paste captions:
- Open your new CapCut project.
- Go to the Captions section.
- Look for an option to "Add manual captions". You might need to create a new empty caption track first.
- Paste the copied caption text (using
Ctrl+V
orCmd+V
). CapCut might attempt to break the pasted text into caption segments. You might need to adjust the timing and segmentation after pasting.
Re-generate auto captions (If other options fail):
- As a last resort, if exporting/importing isn't feasible, you could try re-generating auto captions in your current project. However, AI captions can sometimes vary slightly each time they are generated, so they might not be exactly identical to your backup.
Important points to note regarding caption movements:
- CapCut version: The exact menu options and locations might vary slightly depending on the specific version of CapCut you are using (even PC desktop versions can have updates with interface changes). Look for similar terms such as "Export," "Import," "SRT," "Captions" within the Captions editing area.
- Timing accuracy: When using SRT export/import, the timing of your captions should be preserved. If you are manually copying and pasting text, you might need to double-check and adjust the timing of each caption segment in your new project to match the original video.
To investigate why a minute went missing:
- Check original video/audio: Review your original video and audio files to ensure the missing minute wasn't lost in the source material itself.
- Timeline glitches: Sometimes, CapCut can have timeline glitches. If the missing section is consistently happening in your current project, try restarting CapCut or even re-importing your video into a fresh project to see if that resolves the timeline issue before importing captions.
If you try these methods and still have trouble, could you provide a bit more detail about:
- The specific version of CapCut you are using.
- What you see in the "Captions" section of CapCut in both your backup and new projects? Are there "Export" or "Import" buttons visible?
By following these steps, you can effectively transfer your AI-generated captions from one CapCut project to another, ensuring consistency and accuracy across your videos.
