hi,

I'm new to CapCut, still learning how to use this great app. One feature that I love is text-to-speech, however, I couldn't make it work for chinese text removed link May I know how do I enable or add the chinese text-to-speech function? Is this a CapCut Pro feature?

Also, would like to know if we mix 2 languages in text, such as "我和朋友去shopping mall”, would the text-to-speech able to pick it up?

thanks

Hi,

It is excellent that you are exploring CapCut's text-to-speech feature. It is a very handy tool. Let us clarify how to use it with Chinese text and mixed languages.

Enabling Chinese Text-to-Speech in CapCut:

You will be glad to know that Chinese Text-to-Speech is available in CapCut and it is NOT a CapCut Pro feature. It should be accessible in both the free and Pro versions of the app.

Here is how to enable or use Chinese Text-to-Speech:

  1. Add a text clip: First, you need to add a text clip to your CapCut project. You can do this by tapping on "Text" in the bottom menu and choosing "Add text" or "Text template."
  2. Type or paste Chinese text: In the text box, type or paste your Chinese text.
  3. Access Text-to-Speech: Select the text clip you just created. In the bottom menu, scroll to the right and tap on "Text to speech."
  4. Choose Chinese language and voice: In the Text-to-speech menu, you should see a language selection option. Scroll through the language list and find "Chinese." Once you select "Chinese," you will typically have a choice of different Chinese voices (usually male and female options). Select your desired voice.
  5. Apply Text-to-Speech: Tap the checkmark or "Apply" button to generate the speech. CapCut will process the text and create an audio voiceover using the Chinese voice you selected.

What to do if Chinese TTS is not appearing?

  • App version: Ensure you are using the latest version of CapCut. While Chinese TTS is generally available, older versions might have had limited language support. Update your CapCut app through the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play Store (for Android).
  • Language settings in app: Double-check if there are any language settings within the CapCut app itself that might be affecting the available TTS languages. Look in the app's "Settings" or "Preferences" menu. However, typically, the TTS language selection is directly within the Text-to-speech feature itself, not in separate app-wide settings.
  • Restart app/device: If you are still not seeing Chinese in the language list, try completely closing and restarting the CapCut app, and even restarting your phone or device. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
  • Internet connection: Text-to-speech requires an active internet connection to process the text and generate the voiceover. Ensure you have a stable internet connection.

Mixing languages in Text-to-Speech (e.g., "我和朋友去shopping mall")

Yes, CapCut's Text-to-Speech is capable of handling mixed languages within a single text clip!

  • Automatic language detection: CapCut's TTS is designed to automatically detect the languages within your text. So, if you type "我和朋友去shopping mall", it should read the Chinese parts in a Chinese voice and the English word "shopping mall" with a more English pronunciation (though potentially still with a slight Chinese accent depending on the voice).
  • Experiment with Voices: The quality of mixed-language pronunciation can sometimes vary depending on the specific TTS voice you choose. Try different Chinese voices to see which one handles the mixed language text most naturally for your preference.

Example - How to use mixed language TTS:

  1. Add a text clip in CapCut.
  2. Type or paste: 我和朋友去shopping mall
  3. Go to "Text to speech" and select a Chinese voice.
  4. Apply TTS.
  5. Listen to the result. You should hear the Chinese words spoken in Chinese and "shopping mall" also spoken, likely with the Chinese voice attempting to pronounce the English words.

Handling Mixed-Language text:

For sentences that combine Chinese and English, such as "我和朋友去shopping mall", the text-to-speech feature might not accurately pronounce both languages within a single text box. To address this:

  1. Separate the Text:

    • Divide the sentence into two parts: one for Chinese and one for English.
  2. Add Separate Text Boxes:

    • Add one text box for the Chinese portion and another for the English portion.
  3. Apply Text-to-Speech Individually:

    • Apply the Chinese text-to-speech to the Chinese text box.
    • Apply the English text-to-speech to the English text box.

This method ensures that each segment is pronounced correctly in its respective language.

Important note on pronunciation quality:

While CapCut's TTS is quite good, keep in mind that with mixed languages, the pronunciation of the "foreign" words within a sentence might not always be perfectly natural or native-sounding. This is a limitation of most automated text-to-speech systems including that of CapCut. For critical projects where perfect pronunciation is essential, you might consider recording a manual voiceover for the mixed-language parts.

Alternative solutions:

If you require more advanced multilingual text-to-speech capabilities, consider using CapCut Commerce Pro, which offers a free AI text-to-speech tool supporting multiple languages. This tool can generate lifelike voiceovers for various projects.

In summary:

  • Chinese Text-to-Speech is available in CapCut (both free and Pro).
  • You can select "Chinese" in the Text-to-speech language options after adding a text clip.
  • CapCut TTS can usually handle mixed languages like Chinese and English in the same text clip, but pronunciation of foreign words might not always be perfect.

Experiment with the feature, try different Chinese voices, and see how it works for your specific text. If you encounter any issues, double-check your app version and internet connection, and consider restarting the app or your device.

By following these steps, you can effectively utilize CapCut's text-to-speech feature for Chinese text and manage mixed-language content to achieve accurate pronunciations.
