When I try to import an audio file from my "Files" app on iPhone, it is not showing up in my project. I have been doing this for a long time with no issue but it just started not working. Anyone know why this is happening? I tried cleaning the cache and I have enough storage on my phone. Anybody know?

Thanks!

Hi,

It is an issue if your workflow you rely on suddenly stops working, especially when it comes to importing files. Let us troubleshoot why your audio files might not be showing up in CapCut from your iPhone's "Files" app. Here are a few possible reasons and things you can try:

Possible reasons and troubleshooting steps:

  1. File format incompatibility:

    • Reason: While CapCut supports many audio formats, there is a slight chance the audio file format itself is now causing an issue, or there is a subtle incompatibility. The audio file's format or properties might be incompatible with CapCut. For instance, certain codecs or bitrates may not be supported.
    • Solution:
      • Check audio file format: Verify the format of the audio file you are trying to import. Common compatible formats are MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC.
      • Convert audio format: If your audio file is in a less common format, try converting it to MP3 or M4A using a free online audio converter or a file converter app on your iPhone. Then, try importing the converted file.
  2. File location and "Files" app structure:

    • Reason: Sometimes, the way you have saved the audio file in the "Files" app or the specific location might be causing CapCut to not see it.
    • Solution:
      • Check file location: In the "Files" app, note the exact location where your audio file is saved (e.g., "On My iPhone" > "Downloads", iCloud Drive > a specific folder). Make sure you are navigating to the exact same location within CapCut's import interface.
      • Move file to a simpler location: Try moving the audio file to a more easily accessible location within the "Files" app, like the top level of "On My iPhone" or directly into the "Downloads" folder. Then, try importing from CapCut again.
      • "Recents" or "Browse" in CapCut import: When you go to import audio in CapCut, make sure you are using the "Browse" tab (or similar, depending on CapCut's interface) to navigate through the "Files" app structure, rather than relying on "Recents" which might not always refresh correctly.
  3. Permissions and access issues:

    • Reason: While less common with the "Files" app, there could be some underlying iOS permission issue preventing CapCut from accessing files in certain locations.
    • Solution:
      • Restart your iPhone: A simple restart can often resolve temporary iOS glitches related to file access and permissions.
      • Check CapCut's permissions: Go to Settings on your iPhone > scroll down to CapCut > check if it has permissions related to "Files and Folders" or "Storage" (the exact wording might vary slightly depending on your iOS version). Ensure it has the necessary permissions enabled. (Usually, apps access "Files" app through iOS's standard file picker, so direct permissions are less of a factor, but worth a check).
  4. CapCut app glitches:

    • Reason: There might be a temporary bug or glitch in the CapCut app itself, or a bug in the specific version you are using.
    • Solution:
      • Force close and relaunch CapCut: Completely close the CapCut app (swipe up from the bottom and swipe away the app preview). Then, relaunch CapCut.
      • Check for CapCut updates: Make sure you have the latest version of CapCut installed from the App Store. App updates often contain bug fixes. Go to the App Store, search for "CapCut," and see if there's an "Update" button.
      • Reinstall CapCut: As you have cleaned the cache, a full reinstall can sometimes resolve deeper app issues. Delete the CapCut app from your iPhone, then reinstall it from the App Store. You will need to sign back in after reinstalling.
  5. iCloud drive sync issues (if using iCloud):

    • Reason: If your audio file is stored in iCloud Drive, there might be a temporary syncing issue preventing it from being fully available locally on your iPhone for CapCut to access.
    • Solution:
      • Ensure iCloud file is fully downloaded: Open the "Files" app, navigate to your iCloud Drive location, and make sure the audio file has a solid icon (not a cloud icon indicating it's still downloading). Tap on the file to ensure it's fully downloaded to your device.
      • Disable and re-enable iCloud drive: As a test, you could temporarily disable iCloud Drive in your iPhone settings (Settings > Your Name > iCloud > iCloud Drive > toggle off). Then, move the audio file to "On My iPhone" and try importing. If it works, it might indicate an iCloud syncing issue. Remember to re-enable iCloud Drive afterward if you use it.
  6. iOS system glitches:

    • Reason: In rare cases, there might be a more general temporary glitch within iOS itself affecting file handling.
    • Solution:
      • Software update: Check if there's an iOS update available for your iPhone in Settings > General > Software Update. Updating to the latest iOS version can sometimes resolve underlying system issues.
  7. Alternative Import Methods:

If direct import from the Files app isn't working, consider alternative methods:

    • Use the 'Extracted' Feature: Import the audio into your iPhone's Music Library and then use CapCut's 'Extracted' feature to import the audio.

Steps to try right now:

These are the quickest and most common fixes:

  1. Restart your iPhone.
  2. Force close and relaunch the CapCut app.
  3. Check the exact location of your audio file in the "Files" app and ensure you are navigating to that same location within CapCut's import interface using the "Browse" option.
  4. Try moving the audio file to a simpler location like "On My iPhone" > "Downloads" in the "Files" app and try importing again.

After trying these steps, please let me know if the issue is still happening. If it is, please also tell me:

  • The format of your audio file (e.g., MP3, M4A, WAV).
  • The exact location in the "Files" app where you are saving the audio.
  • If you are using iCloud Drive for the file.
  • The version of CapCut you are using (you can usually find this in the app settings).
  • The version of iOS your iPhone is running (Settings > General > About > Software Version).

Some users have found the following workaround:

  • Long-press the CapCut app and choose "Copy to app". This allows to import successfully.
