On my iPad, when choosing a template there is no camera icon to record live video like there is on my iPhone. How can I get it back?
Zach
Hi,
This is a common observation, and unfortunately, the direct camera recording option within the template selection/editing interface is not available on the iPad version of CapCut, even though it is present on the iPhone version.
It is a design choice by the developers, due to the different screen layout, typical use cases for iPads (often more focused on editing pre-existing footage), or simply a feature that hasn't been prioritized for the iPadOS version.
You cannot "get it back" in the same way it appears on the iPhone because it's not built into the current iPad version.
Here is what you can do instead (Workaround):
- Record First, Then Apply Template:
- Exit the CapCut template section.
- Use your iPad's built-in Camera app to record the video clips you want to use.
- Go back into CapCut and select the template you want.
- When the template prompts you to choose media, select the video clips you just recorded from your iPad's photo library (Recents album).
This is the most reliable way to use templates on the iPad if the direct camera option is missing.
Other things to check (less likely to solve this specific issue, but good practice):
- Update CapCut: Ensure you have the latest version of CapCut installed from the App Store. Sometimes features are added or bugs are fixed in updates.
- Check App Permissions: Navigate to Settings > CapCut on your iPad. Ensure that Camera and Microphone permissions are enabled. Go to your iPad's Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure CapCut has permission to access the camera. While this usually affects whether the camera works rather than whether the icon appears, it's worth checking.
- Restart: Try closing the CapCut app completely and restarting your iPad.
- Regional Restrictions: Certain features in CapCut, including the camera function, might be restricted based on your geographical location. Install a reputable VPN app on your iPad. Connect to a region where CapCut's camera feature is known to be available, such as the United States. Open CapCut and check if the camera icon appears.
In summary, the absence of the direct camera icon within templates on the iPad version of CapCut is intended behaviour or a feature difference between the platforms. The best approach is to record your video using the standard Camera app first and then import those clips into the CapCut template.
If live recording is essential for your projects, consider using CapCut on your iPhone or explore alternative video editing apps that offer similar functionalities on the iPad.
