The new version of capcut won't open at all. I am stuck at a grey screen. Please fix this, or revert back to a working version.

Hi,

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with CapCut displaying a grey screen upon launch after new version update. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:

  1. Run CapCut in Compatibility Mode:

    • Navigate to the CapCut executable file on your computer.
    • Right-click on the CapCut icon and select Properties.
    • Go to the Compatibility tab.
    • Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select an earlier version of Windows from the dropdown menu.
    • Click Apply, then OK.
    • Launch CapCut to see if the issue persists.

Note: Sometimes toggling the compatibility mode settings—enabling and then disabling—can resolve such grey screen issues.

  2. Disable GPU Rendering:

    • Open CapCut.
    • Click on the Menu in the upper left corner and select Settings.
    • Navigate to the Performance tab.
    • Uncheck the option Render interface with GPU.
    • Click Save and restart CapCut.

Disabling GPU rendering can help resolve display issues like black or grey screens during video playback.

  3. Run as Administrator:
    • Right-click on the CapCut application icon and select "Run as administrator." This can sometimes resolve permission-related issues during startup.
  4. Driver Problems (Especially for PC/Laptop):

    • Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues like a grey screen.
      • Windows: Search for "Device Manager" in the Start Menu. Expand "Display adapters," right-click on your graphics card, and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
      • macOS: Generally, macOS handles driver updates automatically. However, you can check for macOS updates in System Preferences > Software Update.
  5. Clear CapCut Cache:

    • Open CapCut and go to the Settings.
    • Under the Draft tab, click on the delete icon next to Cache Size.
    • Confirm by clicking OK, then Save.

Clearing the cache can resolve issues caused by corrupted temporary files.

  6. Update or Reinstall CapCut:

    • Ensure you're using the latest version of CapCut. If not, update the application.
    • If updating doesn't resolve the issue, try uninstalling and then reinstalling CapCut.

Reinstalling can fix problems related to corrupted installation files.

  7. Check for Windows Updates:

    • Ensure your operating system is fully updated, as missing updates can lead to compatibility issues with applications.

Keeping Windows updated ensures compatibility with CapCut.

  8. Close Background Applications:

    • Close unnecessary applications running in the background to free up system resources.

Freeing up system resources can improve application performance and resolve startup issues.

  9. Try an Older Version of CapCut:
    • If the new version continues to fail, you could try finding and installing a slightly older, stable version of CapCut. However, be cautious when downloading software from unofficial sources. Look for reputable archives if you choose this route.

To help us give you more specific advice, could you tell us:

  • What kind of device are you using? (Windows PC, Mac, Android phone, iPhone, etc.)
  • Where did you download CapCut from? (Official website, App Store, Google Play Store, etc.)
  • Did the previous version of CapCut work on your device?

If none of these steps resolve the grey screen issue, you may consider reaching out to CapCut's  technical support team at [email protected] for further assistance.
