When I make edits the smooth slow motion isn’t working. When I select it it’s like doing nothing and I don’t know what to do. I have tried almost everything and nothing works. Please help

Hi,
Here's a breakdown of potential reasons why your smooth slow motion might not be working and steps you should try:
Understanding Smooth Slow Motion Effect in CapCut
- What it does: Smooth slow motion in CapCut is designed to create a visually appealing slow-motion effect by intelligently generating frames to fill in the gaps when you slow down video footage. This makes the slow motion look less choppy and more fluid.
- Processing power: This feature is more demanding on your device's processing power than basic slow motion because it involves analyzing and generating new frames.
Troubleshooting Steps to Try:
-
Verify you are applying it correctly:
- Select the Correct Clip: Make sure you have selected the specific video clip on your timeline that you want to apply smooth slow motion to.
- Navigate to Slow Motion:
- Tap on the selected clip.
- Look for the "Speed" option in the editing menu (usually at the bottom). Tap "Speed."
- Choose "Smooth Slow-Mo" (or similar wording, depending on your CapCut version).
- Select a mode: CapCut offers different smooth slow motion modes (like "Optical Flow" or "Frame Interpolation"). Try selecting one of these modes.
- Adjust speed: After selecting smooth slow motion, you should be able to adjust the speed slider to control how slow the motion becomes. Make sure you are actually reducing the speed (moving the slider to the left).
- Preview: After applying, always preview the clip within CapCut to see if the smooth slow motion effect is visible in the preview. Sometimes the effect is more noticeable in the preview than when just looking at the timeline.
For a video guide on achieving ultra-smooth slow-motion in CapCut, you might find this tutorial helpful:
-
Check video clip compatibility:
- Frame Rate: Smooth slow motion works best with video clips that have a decent original frame rate (like 30fps or 60fps). If your original video is already very low frame rate (like 24fps or lower), the smooth slow motion effect might be less noticeable or less effective.
- Video Quality/Resolution: Very low-resolution or heavily compressed video might also impact the effectiveness of smooth slow motion. Try using a clip with good quality if possible for testing.
-
Device processing power:
- Complex Edits: If your project is already very complex with many layers, effects, and transitions, your device might be struggling to process the smooth slow motion in real-time. Try simplifying your project temporarily to see if smooth slow motion works on a simpler edit.
- Close Background Apps: Close any unnecessary apps running in the background on your device to free up processing power for CapCut.
- Restart CapCut and Your Device: A simple restart of the CapCut app and your phone or computer can often resolve temporary performance glitches.
-
Software updates and bugs:
- Ensure Latest CapCut Version: Double-check that you are using the absolute latest version of CapCut. Developers of CapCut release updates to fix bugs and improve performance, including effects like smooth slow motion. Go to your device's app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) or the official CapCut website to check for updates.
- Known Bugs: It's possible there might be a bug in the specific version of CapCut you are using that is affecting smooth slow motion on certain devices or video types. If this is the case developers would be working on next update when it will be fixed. Check back within few days to get the updated version.
-
Clear CapCut cache:
- If you are using the mobile app, sometimes clearing the app's cache can resolve unexpected behavior.
- Go to your device's settings > Apps > CapCut > Storage > Clear Cache. (Note: The exact steps might vary slightly depending on your Android or iOS device). Do not clear data unless you are sure you have backed up your projects, as clearing data might delete project files stored within the app.
-
Try a different video clip for testing:
- Import a completely different video clip into CapCut (ideally one with good lighting and movement). Try applying smooth slow motion to this new clip to see if the issue is specific to one video file or if it's a general problem with the feature.
-
Export and check final output:
- Even if the smooth slow motion effect is not very obvious in the CapCut preview, export your edited video and watch the exported file. Sometimes the effect is more fully rendered in the final exported video than in the preview.
- Try on a different device:
- If possible, try editing the same clip on another device to see if the issue is device-specific.
- Add motion blur: Sometimes adding motion blur to the clip can enhance the smoothness of slow-motion effects. Adjust the blur settings to see if it improves the outcome.
