Hello.
I have free CapCut video maker. I have loaded pictures and music and end fade for music. I don't seem to be able to figure out how to drag and drop my transition choice into the video. I would like a fade right between pictures. And I wonder if there is a way to change background color.
Appreciate any tips.
Hi,
Welcome to CapCut Video Editor app. Let us get those transitions added and background color changed. Here is how to do both in the free CapCut video maker:
Adding Fade Transitions Between Pictures
CapCut makes it easy to add transitions between your pictures. Here is how you can drag and drop a fade transition and achieve a "fade right" effect:
-
Make sure your pictures are on the timeline: You have already loaded your pictures onto the CapCut timeline, which is great. They should be arranged in the order you want them to appear in your video.
-
Locate the "Transitions" Tab:
- Look at the bottom toolbar in CapCut (or the left-side panel, depending on if you are using the mobile app or desktop version).
- You should see a button or tab labeled "Transitions". Tap or click on this.
-
Browse Transition Options:
- Once you are in the "Transitions" section, you will see a variety of transition styles displayed as icons.
- Look for "Fade" transitions: Scroll through the transitions and find the "Fade" category or transitions that have "Fade" in their name (like "Fade In", "Fade Out", "Fade to Black", "Fade to White", or simply "Fade"). CapCut may not have a specific transition called "Fade Right", but a simple "Fade" transition will likely give you a smooth fade effect between pictures.
-
Drag and Drop the "Fade" Transition:
- Select the "Fade" transition you want to use (e.g., the basic "Fade" transition icon).
- Drag the transition icon from the Transitions panel and drop it in between two pictures on your timeline. You should see a small gap or area between your picture clips where you can drop the transition. When you drag, CapCut will usually visually indicate where you can drop the transition (e.g., a highlighted area between clips).
- Repeat this drag-and-drop process for every transition you want between your pictures.
-
Adjust Transition Duration:
- After you have added a transition, you can usually adjust its length or duration to control how fast or slow the fade effect is.
- Click on the transition you just added on the timeline.
- You should see handles or options to drag the edges of the transition to make it longer or shorter. You might also see a duration setting you can adjust numerically.
-
Preview Your Video:
- Play back your video to see how the fade transitions look between your pictures. Adjust the transition durations if needed to get the timing right.

Changing the Background Color
Yes, you can definitely change the background color in CapCut. Here is how:
-
Select the "Background" Option:
- In CapCut, look for the "Background" option. The location might vary slightly between the mobile app and desktop version, but it is usually found in one of these places:
- Timeline Area: Sometimes, there's a "Background" button directly above the timeline or in the editing controls near the timeline.
- Canvas or Format Settings: Look for a "Canvas" or "Format" settings area. Background color options are often found within these settings.
- "Edit" Panel for the overall project: In some versions, you might need to select the main project settings or canvas area to find background color options.

Choose a Background Color:
- Once you find the "Background" option, you should see a color palette or color selection tool.
- Select a preset color: CapCut usually offers a range of common colors you can quickly choose from.
- Use the color picker: There's often a color picker tool that lets you select any color you want. You can tap on the color spectrum or enter specific color codes (like hex codes) to get the exact background color you desire.
-
Apply the Background Color:
- After you have selected your desired background color, CapCut will apply it to the background of your video project. This background color will be visible in any areas where your pictures don't fully cover the screen (if your pictures are not full-screen).

Tips for Background Color and Transitions:
- Keep it Simple: For picture slideshows, simple fade transitions and solid background colors often look clean and professional.
- Background Color Choice: Choose a background color that complements your pictures and music. Neutral colors (like white, light gray, black, or soft pastels) often work well.
- Experiment: Don't be afraid to try out different transitions and background colors to see what looks best for your specific video project!
