We will go problem by problem:

Problem 1: Can’t Favorite / Save Effects

Most common reasons + fixes:

1. Not logged in (this is the #1 cause)

Favorites do NOT save unless you are logged in.

Fix

• Open CapCut

• Go to Profile / Me

• Log in with TikTok, Google, or email

• Restart the app

• Try favoriting again "⭐"

2. App glitch / cache issue

CapCut bugs out sometimes after updates.

Fix (Mobile)

• Settings → Apps → CapCut → Storage

• Clear cache (not data)

• Reopen CapCut

Fix (PC/Mac)

• Close CapCut completely

• Reopen as Administrator (Windows)

• Or restart your system

3. Effects are online-only

Some effects can’t be favorited offline.

Fix

• Make sure you’re connected to stable internet

• Tap the effect once to let it fully load

• Then tap "⭐"

Outdated CapCut version

Older versions break favorites.

Fix

• Update CapCut from App Store / Play Store / capeditcut.com website

• Restart after updating

Problem 2: Mask not working

This usually happens for one of these reasons:

You are on the wrong layer

Masks only work on clips, not empty tracks.

Fix

• Select the actual video/image clip

• Go to Mask

• Choose shape → adjust

Mask not supported on that effect

Some effects override masks.

Fix

• Apply mask first

• Then apply effects

• If it breaks → try moving effect above the masked clip (PC)

Bug from recent update

CapCut updates scan sometimes break masks temporarily.

Fix

• Restart CapCut

• Duplicate the clip

• Apply mask again on the duplicate

Quick fix that solves both issues

1. Export your project

2. Close CapCut

3. Reopen CapCut

4. Start a new project

5. Import the exported video

6. Try effects & masks again
