I have tried using multiple different caption templates on capcut windows app, one of them being Verbatim Color II. I like the look of the highlighted words. However, while the templates are not showing in the app to be pro features, when I go to export the video, it tells me it's a pro feature. Even after changing the template to something else, I go to export the video, and it tells me I still have this template in the video, so I have to delete the captions completely and start over again.

Hi,

This is a known issue which have been reported recently on the CapCut Windows app. Even though the caption templates (such as Verbatim Color II in your case) appear available without a Pro label in the editing interface, when you try to export your video, CapCut’s export process detects that a Pro-only caption style is in use. Consequently, it won’t let you export unless you upgrade to Pro—even if you later change the template in the timeline, remnants of the Pro template seem to persist.

What’s happening?
Reclassification of Caption Templates: It appears that CapCut has recently reclassified certain caption templates as Pro features. Although they may not be clearly marked in the editor, the export function enforces these restrictions.
Residual Template Data: When you add a Pro-designated caption (like Verbatim Color II) and then change it, the underlying data for that template can remain in your project. This “leftover” data triggers the Pro feature block during export.

What can you do?

  1. Delete and Recreate Captions: The most reliable workaround is to delete the problematic caption layer entirely and re-add captions using a template that is confirmed to be free. You can try manually retyping the captions or choosing a different, clearly free style.
  2. Downgrade to an Older Version: If you have recently upgraded to new version then try downloading the older versions of the CapCut Windows app when it did not enforce the Pro restriction on captions. This might allow you to use your preferred template without the export error.
  3. Clean Up Your Project: Sometimes the problem is specific to one project file. Duplicate your project to see if the duplicate behaves correctly. Double-check your timeline to ensure that every instance of the problematic caption template is deleted. Watch out for hidden or overlapping caption tracks that might still be present. Some caption templates may create additional tracks or layers. Make sure to review and delete any extra tracks that could be linked to the issue.
  4. Try a Similar Template: Consider using another caption template with a similar style to "Verbatim Color II" that doesn’t trigger the Pro feature error.
  5. Manually Create the Effect: If you're comfortable with CapCut's text and animation tools, consider recreating the desired highlighted word effect manually. This bypasses the problematic template altogether.
  6. Try Exporting in Segments: Try exporting your video in shorter segments. Sometimes the error only appears with longer videos. You can later combine the segments in a new project.
  7. Last Resort: Export your video without the captions and add the text effects using another video editing software or a dedicated text overlay tool.

The export error you are encountering is due to a recent update in CapCut where certain caption templates (like Verbatim Color II) are now locked as Pro features—even if they appear free during editing. The solution is to remove any Pro-specific caption data from your project before exporting or switch to a caption template that is confirmed free.
