I have images on my timeline of a capcut project on my Android smartphone ...

The images were stored in a folder on my phone  called this_folder, but I  renamed the folder to another_name ....

now i am getting the message "your videos and images may have been deleted or moved on your device" ...

How can I relink cap cut?

Hi,

When you rename or move the folder containing the images or videos used in your CapCut project, the app loses the path to those files. It essentially remembers "the file was in this_folder" and when it looks there, it's gone.

Unfortunately, CapCut's mobile app doesn't have a sophisticated "relink missing media" feature like many desktop video editors (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) where you can easily point the project to the new folder location for all missing files at once.

Here are the common ways to fix this on Android:

  1. The Easiest Fix: Rename the Folder Back

    • Go to your phone's file manager app (like "Files by Google", "My Files" on Samsung, or another file explorer).
    • Navigate to where you renamed the folder (the one now called another_name).
    • Rename it back to its original name (this_folder).
    • Close CapCut completely (make sure it's not just minimized, swipe it away from your recent apps).
    • Re-open CapCut and load your project. The media should now load correctly because the path CapCut remembers is valid again.
    • Consideration: This is the simplest solution, but it means you have to stick with the old folder name while working on the project.
  2. Manually Replace Each Missing Clip (Tedious but Works)

    • Open your CapCut project. You'll see placeholders or error icons on the timeline where the images/videos are missing.
    • Tap on one of the missing clips on the timeline.
    • Look for an option like "Replace" or sometimes tapping the clip itself might bring up options to change the source. (The exact interface might vary slightly with CapCut updates).
    • When prompted to select media, navigate to the new folder location (another_name).
    • Select the exact same image or video file that was originally there.
    • You will likely have to repeat this process for every single clip that is showing as missing.
    • Consideration: This allows you to keep the new folder name (another_name), but it can be very time-consuming if your project has many clips from that folder.
  3. Re-import and Re-edit (Last Resort)

    • If the above methods don't work or are too tedious, you might have to:
    • Import the media again from the new folder (another_name) into your CapCut project's media bin.
    • Go through your timeline and manually replace the missing clips with the newly imported ones, essentially rebuilding parts of your edit.
    • Consideration: This is the most work, as you might lose specific timings or effects applied to the original clips on the timeline.

In summary:

  • The quickest fix is usually renaming the folder back to this_folder.
  • If you must keep the new folder name (another_name), you'll likely need to manually replace each missing clip within the CapCut timeline by pointing it to the file in the new location.

For future projects, it's best practice to finalize your media organization before starting a complex edit, or wait until the project is fully exported before moving or renaming source folders.

Please note that CapCut does not currently offer a bulk relink feature on Android, so each file must be relinked individually. To prevent similar issues in the future, it's advisable to maintain a consistent folder structure for your media files. If you need to move or rename folders, consider relinking the files immediately afterward to ensure seamless project functionality.
