is there a way to select an asset on the timeline and copy it's formatting and Paste the formatting onto a different asset on the timeline?
So for instance maybe I have an image on the timeline that has a position, a scale, and a rotation, and maybe I have adjusted its contrast and saturation And other adjustments, and maybe it has an effect of some kind with effect settings ....
Hi,
Based on the current features of CapCut for Android, there isn't a direct, single "Copy Formatting" or "Paste Attributes" function that works exactly like a format painter in desktop software (where you copy all formatting – position, scale, rotation, color adjustments, effects, etc. – from one asset and paste it onto another).
Here is a breakdown of what you can and cannot easily do:
-
Copying the Entire Asset: You can select an asset (clip, image) on the timeline and choose "Copy." This creates a duplicate of the entire asset, including its media content and all the formatting/effects applied to it. You can then paste this duplicate elsewhere on the timeline. This isn't useful if you want to apply the formatting to a different piece of media.
-
Copying Individual Elements (Limited):
- Effects: You can often copy an individual effect layer that you've applied. Select the effect layer itself (below the main clip) and look for a copy option. You can then paste this effect layer elsewhere, potentially aligning it with a different clip.
- Keyframes: While you can manipulate keyframes for position, scale, opacity, etc., there isn't a simple way to copy all keyframes for all properties from one clip and paste them onto another.
-
What You Cannot Do (Directly): There is no single button or command to:
- Select Clip A.
- "Copy Formatting" (capturing its position, scale, rotation, color adjustments, applied effects, etc.).
- Select Clip B.
- "Paste Formatting" (applying all of Clip A's formatting settings to Clip B, while keeping Clip B's original media content).
As of April 2025, CapCut for Android does not offer a direct feature to copy and paste formatting or effects from one asset to another on the timeline. This means adjustments such as position, scale, rotation, contrast, saturation, and applied effects need to be manually replicated for each asset.
However, CapCut does provide the ability to create and save presets, which can streamline the application of consistent adjustments across multiple assets. By saving a combination of effects and adjustments as a preset, you can apply this preset to other assets without reconfiguring each setting individually.
Creating and Applying Presets in CapCut:
-
Edit an Asset:
-
Select an asset on your timeline and apply the desired adjustments (e.g., position, scale, rotation) and effects.
-
-
Save as Preset:
-
After finalizing your adjustments, look for an option to save these settings as a preset. This option is typically found within the effects or adjustments panel.
-
-
Apply Preset to Other Assets:
-
Select another asset on your timeline.
-
Navigate to the presets section and choose the preset you previously saved to apply the same adjustments and effects.
-
Please note that the exact steps may vary depending on the version of CapCut you are using. While this method doesn't allow for direct copying and pasting of formatting between assets, utilizing presets can significantly enhance your workflow efficiency by enabling consistent application of adjustments across multiple assets.
Other Workarounds:
- Manual Reapplication: This way is to manually note the settings (position values, scale percentage, rotation degrees, specific color adjustment values, effect names, and their settings) on the source asset and then manually apply them to the target asset. This is tedious, especially for complex formatting.
- Using the Copied Clip (Clunky): You could copy the entire formatted asset (Clip A), paste the duplicate, and then try to use the "Replace" function to swap the media content with that of your target asset (Clip B). However, this might not always perfectly preserve all aspects, especially if the durations or aspect ratios differ significantly.
In summary, CapCut for Android currently lacks a dedicated "paste formatting/attributes" feature for transferring a comprehensive set of adjustments and effects from one asset to another in a single step. You will generally need to use presets or reapply settings manually or copy individual elements like effects where possible.
