Hi,

I have been hearing news about capcut being available back again in the app store across US. Can anyone confirm this news. If so, can i download capcut again and start using the video editing features?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes as per the recent update from capcut the app is now available for fresh downloads in the US. You can visit the official Google play store or apple app Store in order to download the latest version of capcut in the US. That means you can continue video editing and access all features as per before.

If you were a pro member before the ban, now you can restore the auto renewal at the same earlier price and continue editing videos.

However if you have by chance deleted the app during the temporary ban then you may have unfortunately lost your project files. So do check in after reinstalling capcut app. If you have saved your backups prior to uninstalling you will be able to restore the same.

A recent tweet from CapCut’s official X account confirmed that the app has been restored for US users.

Earlier users were resorting to workarounds such as VPN and changing the region in the app Store which is no longer required now since direct download is being allowed.

It may be noted that earlier restrictions (effective January 19, 2025) blocked new downloads in the US, but as on today that the situation has changed. If you’re in the US, you can check the App Store to confirm availability for your account.

What is the background about the capcut ban incident in the US:

The CapCut ban incident in the US was part of a broader regulatory action targeting apps developed by ByteDance Ltd.—the parent company behind popular apps like TikTok, CapCut, and Lemon8.

Impact on Users:

Starting January 19, 2025, US users could no longer download CapCut (and other ByteDance apps) or receive updates through the US App Store.

However, users who already had the app installed were allowed to continue using it (with workarounds), but they faced limitations if they ever deleted the app or needed updates.

Some users attempted to circumvent the ban by switching their App Store region, though these methods were unofficial and not endorsed by either the companies or regulators.

In response to the restricted availability of these apps, companies like Instagram moved to fill the gap—Instagram Edits was introduced as a direct competitor to CapCut, offering similar video editing capabilities along with additional features tailored to the platform.

Current Status

As per the latest communication from capcut official X channel, the app is now available for fresh downloads across the US.
