I'm experiencing an issue with CapCut on PC. When I open a project, playback randomly pauses, and I can’t continue. The preview screen either freezes or goes black, and sometimes only the audio keeps playing while the video remains stuck. Additionally, I’m unable to export the project

Hi

The problems of random playback pauses, a freezing or black preview screen, audio continuing without video, and export failures can be debugged and solved. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and solve these problems:

  • Disable Hardware Acceleration Features:

    • Render Interface with GPU: This setting can sometimes cause display problems. To disable it:
      • Open CapCut and click on the Menu in the upper-left corner.
      • Select Settings.
      • Navigate to the Performance tab.
      • Uncheck the Render interface with GPU option.
      • Click Save and restart CapCut.
    • Speed Up Hardware Decoding: Disabling this may also help:
      • In the same Performance tab, uncheck the Speed up hardware decoding option.
      • Click Save and restart CapCut.
    • These adjustments will resolve black screen and freezing issues.
  • Clear CapCut Cache:

    • Accumulated cache can lead to performance problems. To clear it:
      • From CapCut's home screen, click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
      • Go to the Draft tab.
      • Click the delete icon next to the cache size to clear it.
      • Confirm the action and click Save.
    • Clearing the cache can help resolve playback and export issues.
  • Update or Reinstall CapCut:

    • Ensure you are using the latest version of CapCut:
      • On CapCut's home page, click the Settings icon.
      • Select Version and click Check for updates.
      • If an update is available, click Install now.
    • If updating does not help, consider reinstalling CapCut:
      • Uninstall the current version from your PC.
      • Download the latest version from our website and install the same
    • Reinstalling can resolve issues caused by corrupted files.
  • Update Graphics Drivers:

    • Outdated graphics drivers can cause video playback issues:
      • Visit your GPU manufacturer's website (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).
      • Download and install the latest drivers compatible with your system.
    • Keeping drivers up to date ensures compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:

    • changing settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel helps:
      • Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
      • Go to Manage 3D settings.
      • Select Use the advanced 3D image settings.
      • Apply the changes and restart your PC.
    • This adjustment can fix black preview issues.

Other points to consider:

  • RAM: CapCut, especially with complex projects, can be RAM-intensive. Check your RAM usage while CapCut is running (Task Manager on Windows). If it's consistently very high (near 100%), you might need more RAM. Closing unnecessary programs can free up RAM for CapCut.
  • CPU: A less powerful CPU can also cause slowdowns and freezes. Again, monitor CPU usage in Task Manager. If it's constantly maxed out, your CPU might be a bottleneck.
  • Storage: If your hard drive (especially if it's a traditional HDD, not an SSD) is nearly full, it can severely impact performance. Free up some space. Also, consider using an SSD for your project files and CapCut's cache if possible, as SSDs are much faster than HDDs.
  • Project Complexity: Very complex projects with lots of effects, transitions, high-resolution footage, and multiple tracks can strain your system. Try simplifying your project temporarily to see if that helps. For example, try working with lower-resolution proxies of your video files.
  • Software Conflicts: Other software running on your computer might be conflicting with CapCut. Try closing other applications, especially other video editing or media players, to see if that makes a difference.
  • Corrupted Files: The video files you're using in your project might be corrupted. Try importing different video files to see if the problem persists. If the issue disappears with other files, you know the original files were the problem.
  • File Format: While CapCut supports many formats, sometimes specific codecs can cause problems. Try converting your video files to a more common format like MP4 using a video converter tool.
  • Project File Corruption: The CapCut project file itself might be corrupted. If you have a previous save of the project, try opening that instead.
  • Export Settings: Incorrect export settings can sometimes lead to failures. Try exporting with different settings (resolution, bitrate, format) to see if that works. Start with a lower resolution and bitrate to test.
  • Disk Space: Ensure you have enough free disk space on the drive you're exporting to. Exporting high-resolution video can require a lot of space.

Good luck!
