A popular video editing style on TikTok right now is to have tons of very short clips, so, for example, if I had a clip of me cleaning, I would splice that up into a bunch of .5 second clips and remove a bunch in between.
I think it would be much easier to edit if there was a way to add all my videos into a project and then be able to split all the videos up so that there’s tons of cuts and they’re all say point five seconds or point two seconds.
If I wanted right now I think I would have to individually go in and click split each time I want to split. But I was wondering if there’s a way to add an auto split so that it automatically cuts up my video into .5 second pieces and I can delete the ones in between the I don’t want to make the video.
Thank you so much for your help with this, if there’s already a way to do it, I would love to know how thank you
The rapid-cut style is a popular trend on TikTok, but manually splitting each clip can be super time-consuming. Although CapCut does not have an “auto-split” feature to divide clips into equal segments all at once, here are some strategies to speed things up significantly:
1. Speed up manual splitting which is the most practical way:
- Zoom In: Zoom way into your timeline. This gives you more precision when splitting your clips into smaller, equal intervals (e.g., 0.5 seconds). The more you zoom in, the more accurately you can place your splits.
- Use the Scrubber: The timeline scrubber (the playhead) is key. With the zoomed-in timeline, you can quickly jump to the 0.5-second marks (or whatever interval you’re using).
- Keyboard Shortcuts on PC/MAC: If you're using the desktop version, make sure to use keyboard shortcuts for splitting clips. This can speed up the process a lot. Common shortcuts include Ctrl+B for Windows or Cmd+B for Mac.
- Rhythmic Tapping: On mobile, get into a rhythm by tapping the split button at your desired interval. With practice, you’ll be able to split more quickly.
2. Pre-Cut longer clips if you can:
If your source video is already longer, try cutting it into larger chunks of 5-10 seconds each before bringing it into CapCut. This way, you’ll have fewer smaller clips to split once inside CapCut.
3. Use Audio Cues for Timing:
- Add a Metronome Track: Consider adding a metronome or beat track. Set it to the desired BPM that matches your clip length (e.g., 120 BPM for 0.5-second clips). Use the beat to guide your splitting, so your cuts line up with the rhythm.
4. Third-Party Tools:
- Other Video Editing Software: Some more advanced editing tools might offer batch processing or scripting options to automate splitting. If you're comfortable using other video editors, this might be worth exploring, though it may be overkill for occasional projects.
5. Provide a feature request to CapCut development team:
- If you want CapCut to introduce an auto-split feature, let the developers know about it. You can write an email to [email protected] or post it on CapCut social media such as Instagram or X. The more users suggest it, the more likely CapCut will implement it.
Why Auto-Split Is Tricky?
A true auto-split feature would be difficult to implement due to following reasons:
- Variable Clip Lengths: The rapid-cut style often involves creative variation in clip lengths, and an auto-split tool might not allow for that flexibility.
- Content Awareness: An auto-split tool wouldn’t "know" which 0.5-second chunks you want to keep and which ones to delete. You'd still need to curate the selection after it’s split.
Final Thoughts:
While CapCut doesn’t currently have an auto-split feature, the tips above – like zooming in, using keyboard shortcuts, and rhythmic tapping – can make manual splitting much faster. And don’t forget to suggest this feature to CapCut if it would make your editing life easier!
